Part 1: Planning Phase
This event was made possible with 7 months of planning and over a dozen amazing volunteer organizers.
Part 2: Exhibition Preview
Our host, the Magnolia Tree Earth Center launched a dazzling fundraiser gala to debut this annual art exhibition with 30+ local artists inspired by environmentalist Hattie Carthan, the center's trailblazing founder.
Part 3: Film Screening & Fashion Show
Thunderstorms caused the original plans to shift, ensuring that our vision of a vibrant block party was honored by postponing the outdoor activities. During the first weekend of September, attendees ducked for rain cover inside the Earth Center where a debut fashion show was presented for the label Black Smoke. Additionally, a short documentary film about Hattie Carthan was presented at the Herbert Von King performing arts center.
Part 4: Block Party
Weather? Perfection. Community? Activated!
On September 13 we completed this event with an epic block party on Lafayette Avenue full of free treats like popsicles and tea, free workshops, music, a double dutch contest, and games.
